Maulana started to paint in 2001 and today is associated to Tinga Tinga Arts Cooperative Society in Dar es Salaam.
Maulana worked for several months in Nairobi in Kenya as illustrator of Tinga Tinga Tales,an animated series for children commissioned by BBC and Disney. He was among five other Tinga Tinga painters drawing designs for the series and he contributed many illustrations. One of the most important image he created was the illustration of the main character, the narrator. The narrator is a monkey who introduces each of the 52 films.

The Tinga Tinga Trail - in Dar es Salaam
Tinga Tinga art is becoming increasingly well known. It is easy, when in Dar es Salaam,to visit the Tinga Tinga Cooperative and view the art in any of the art markets. However,in order to get a full understanding of what the art is about and how it all began we recommend you take a guided tour with TTS [Tinga Tinga Studio - offices next to the Tinga Tinga market] The guided tour they provide gives a deeper understanding of the Tinga Tinga movement. The tour visits Edward Saidi Tingatinga´s burial place. And visits not only the original Tinga Tinga family in Morogoro Stores but also most of the artist groups in Dar es Salaam giving the opportunity to speak to the leaders. And the grand finale is to visit Tinga Tinga painters who paint at their homes. These artists are very good and have developed there own unique style. Two of the artist who may be visited are John Kilaka or Bush Mikidadi! If you love Tinga Tinga art then book yourself on the tour!
