Lake Manyara Adventure Safaris

Lake Manyara is often relegated as a park that can be conveniently tagged onto the beginning or end of an itinerary.  There is the usual blurb about tree climbing lions that cannot be found anywhere else in Africa, which is not by the way strictly accurate.  There is generally not a great deal of excitement about Lake Manyara.  It pales against its more exciting neighbours namely the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti.  

Yet it has so much to offer.  The best bit for me is being able to get out the safari vehicle and get up close and personal with African nature.  To stretch your legs and take in the smells and textures it makes the safari more exciting. 

 

So, what is there to do apart from the game drives of which you may be a little weary of by the time you reach this park.  There are night game drives which are not allowed in the Serengeti or Ngorongor Crater.  You can go canoeing on the lake and see Tanzania from an entirely different perspective.  There are cultural tours to meet the diverse and fantastic people of Tanzania.  Take a picnic or a full blown dinner in the bush.  See the park by mountain bike, go abseiling or walking in the forest and/or the escarpment just outside the park.

 

Take full advantage of your time in Tanzania.  Ensure your tour operator earns your hard earned money.  They should not be allowed just to give you a half day tour of this park just because it makes their itinerary neat and tidy with minimum effort.  Tanzania is a fantastic and if your travel agent or your operator cannot offer you anything special then look else where!  This is the age of information the internet has made the world accessible.
